And is there a different answer for live vs. internet viewers (or non-viewers, for that matter)?
Individual or team?
Teams: Fixed or mixed?
Long, grueling NAJF Championship-style. Some teams pre-chosen,
but 4 grueling weeks of qualifying for the rest. Then, weekly
head-to-head bouts at different frontons.
Tomato Festival type - 1 day and out?
World (European) Championships - partidos. Endless qualifiers
then bracketed playoffs.
Weekend invitational - several days of head-to-head, possibly
mixed, often ending with a final partido.
The long tournaments reduce the luck factor, but can be grueling
for the players. If they're TOO long, the public may drift away.
Too short, there's lots of luck. Can't be used for a serious tournament
- just fun.
Too frequent - no significance (''Join us for our regular Thursday
Championship Quiniela'')
Are these 'bragging rights' tournaments worth the effort?
Sorry to ramble on, I just wanted to get a bunch of ideas out.
