Jai Alai is the only sport played in the USA that
has no infrastructure here. Almost all the players and all of
the equipment for jai alai is brought over from some other country.
We all know unless you are one of a select few, jai alai is unavailable
to be played in its true form. IMO Miami Amatuer and CAJA may
be fun but they are only a bastardized form of jai alai. Everything
that makes jai alai a great sport is lost on a small undersized
court and balls which do not act like real pelotas. At Miami Amateur
the strategy of the game is lost and players just go out there
and try to overpower their opponent.
The way it is now jai alai can not grow or attract new blood.
Every other sport has places where kids can go and play and get
interested. Benny was on the right track with his youth groups
but they are too few and far between.
If done correctly jai alai can grow and become popular. Get kids
interested and it will get the parents interested and they will
bring their friends and it will become a domino effect. Jai Alai
cant be saved by the gambling end of it, look where we are now.
