I have been trying for 7 years to put together the time to utilize the 2 private schools that boarder Puryear park in N E St Petersburg, Fla as a training ground for young Jai alai players. I am convinced that this is the only way to save our sport. We have been playing Jai alai on that site for over 20 years and in 2007 were able to build the 1st public ameture Jai alai court in the USA. My vision then as it is now was to implement our sport into the PE programs of Canterbury and Shorecrest. Both schools are K-12 and are within a half mile of our facility. I have taught many players over the years and know how valuable the sport is when you can hook kids and adults alike if you give them the opportunity to try!! Then work with them on a regular bases to keep them from getting frustrated because the game is difficult to learn but thats why it's SO addictive. Unfortunately my time has been taken in different directions due to life issues and I haven't yet been able to realize this dream. However, in Jan I will begin to receive my fire dept pension and things could be looking up. Jaialai is the most incredible sport I've ever played!! I am very thankful that I was able to teach my son, who has to turned out to be an incredible player.
