One idea is that, due to the proximity factor, #8 will often knock off #6 and #7 (or #1 and #2, for that matter). See the following table:

So, there's a strong liklihood that #8 will face 7, 1 or 2
in their first tour, then 6, 5, 4, 3 in that order. That means
there should be more 8-3's than 8-4's, etc.
