Handicapping vs Random Draw

Posted on June 19, 2014 at 06:59:41 PM by David II

Looking at the some of the posts recently and talking to a pro yesterday, it is my conclusion that it is never a good thing when Frontons institute a random draw, in my opinion it completely diminishes the integrity of the game / players / Frontons credibility. I would have to compare it to a Restaurant that does a buy 1 get 1 free. If you have a great product, you shouldn't have to give it away in any shape or form. True quinella betting for the best caliber of play and exciting betting is to handicap better players(Pay them more Salary) and enhance weaker players with better partners or post positions to create an even game.... A game that goes around 3-4x is a great game, having your 2 best players out of the 1 or the 2 has proven to never work, they win... it pays awful, they don't hit the board it's fixed, or they are not trying, or its crappy Jai-Alai. One of the most essential elements of Jai-Alai is the balance of the roster. Daytona & Melbourne, Rhode Island & Palm Beach are great examples of Frontons that were first rate, despite the fact the Jai- alai was not the caliber of Miami or Hartford, the rosters were very competitive, well made programs, balanced and provided great jai-Alai action. As you all know, the true value in jai-alai is seeing awesome play and winning some cash or vice versa, it should be a great night out! The approach of lets make it easy to win, as Tampa did years ago, (which was just was one of the most unethical things that Fronton did, because it was complete BS and everyone knew it, as one employee lost their job for hitting the re-scramble button to many times until the game looked pretty easy to pick), yeah people cash tickets, for smaller amounts and never experience the sport and gambling that goes with it at its best. It reminds me when the Jai-Alai's went to the $1 bet, Tri Boxes / Part wheels / etc. This really hurt the gambling allure, Remember when Frontons used to boast of their payoffs vs. the Dog Track and Horse track and that Jai-alai was a great game that lasted 15 - 20 minutes vs. a lap around the track. I remember going to Bridgeport and seeing quinella's never pay less than $38 as much as a $100, exactas always from 200 - 500/ Trifectas rarely under $1200 as much as much as 12K, with 5-6K not being so uncommon once or twice a night. That's what first rate balanced play combined with a first rate facility to include locker rooms and court maintenance, first rate Management and first rate employees will bring you. I don't know if the Frontons do that now or not, so I am not taking a shot at them.. they must know better, but as a true lifelong fan......There can be no other way, or it will never come back.
