An example of 'dumping for place' would be where post 2 scores 2 pts, then 4, 5, 6, and 7 score 1 each, and then 8 is about to run it out. At game point the 8 will serve to the 2, who can automatically place by deliberately losing the point.

It's an unfortunate case where the spectacular scoring system is weak, because it creates a conflict of interest: win the point and there's still a good chance you will finish off the board or only get show, or lose the point and lock up second.

Personally, I would never accuse players of doing this unless I had collected some data, but there are many here who don't need no steenkin' data and are absolutely sure that it's happening.
