I see them as different. The football team taking a knee or
doing an intentional safety is still trying to win the game. The
jai-alai player losing a point on purpose to get second has stopped
trying to win the game.
Maybe it is more like a football team losing the last game of
the season on purpose, to lock up the #1 draft pick next year.
It ends up helping them, but hurts the integrity of the game overall.
The other team gets a free win...which may hurt another football
team trying to beat them out for a pkayoff spot. Just like the
jai-alai players on the bench who don't get another turn on the
court....because a player dumped to get the place.
