Just gotta comment. I don't know much about the jai alai industry.
I'm the first to admit it. I just enjoy the sport.
Florida is the hub of jai alai in the US. What I've never understood
is why the 'Basque interests' never built a fronton/casino/etc
in Elko,Nevada where gambling is very legal and they have the
annual international Basque festival (at least last time I heard).
I lived there about 12 years ago and with the Basque restaurants
and culture, I never understood why they didn't do something like
the proposed structure in FL there. Property prices would be MUCH
lower and better taxes.
I understand the casinos planned on that in Vegas and Reno in
the 80s. Problem is there are very few Basque in Reno and even
fewer in Vegas. When I lived there there was an airline the casinos
owned where they flew people in with package deals from all over
the US.
Seemed like a good idea to me but didn't see much interest in
the Basque community.
Just my $ .01
I tend to me a little more 'right leaning' but from a business
pov, prostitution is legal in Elko which it isn't in Vegas and
Reno (gotta go outside of the city limits). Just a side thought.
