#81 - What's with those consecutive # trifectas?

This a reissue of Question #3, which was lost in a server crash 18 months ago. I'd like to replace what we lost.

Take a look at these trifecta finish counts from Miami's Fall, 2002 season.

Finish #times  Finish #times
1-2-3    6     3-2-1   22
2-3-4    3     4-3-2   16
3-4-5    0     5-4-3   13
4-5-6    3     6-5-4    3
5-6-7    1     7-6-5    2
6-7-8    0     8-7-6    1

Consecutive number (increasing) finishes are pretty scarce. Yet, for the same 3 numbers (decreasing), the finish count is much greater.

But wait - after you get past the 5-4-3, there IS no significant difference in the finish count.
