I hope you're right, Bill. That rule would really detract from
the game. One of the most exciting plays in jai-alai is a player
climbing the screen to snag a carom.
As for random post positions, Jim, all you have to do is look
at the entries for this past Saturday night. In game 5 singles,
Egi had the 1 and Foronda had the 8. In game 7 singles, Foronda
had the 2 and Egi had the 3. Also Saturday matinee, game 7, Foronda
in the 1, Egi in the 2, Pancho in the 7. It sure looks like Orlando
has changed over to random post positions. If Santi or Elorri
were assigning the posts, that would not happen.
Note to Orlando management.....NOT GOOD. Especially when you have
a couple of players like Egi and Foronda who are clearly the best
players on the roster. Keeping the better players or teams in
the tougher posts evens out the competition, and makes for more
interesting games and more interesting wagering challenges. I
know there are those who will say that they will cash more winners
when the better players get the easier posts.....and maybe that's
what this is all about? If people cash more winners, their money
will go further, and they will place more wagers before they lose
their bankroll, meaning that the house makes more money? And what
about being fair to your players? No disrespect to anyone on the
roster, because they all have a lot more talent than I could ever
hope to have, but it's hard enough for them to compete against
the likes of Foronda and Egi to begin with, and now you're going
to randomize the posts on top of it? And please don't tell me
you have to be fair to the better players, too. They had plenty
of success from the tougher posts last year, and they're good
enough to do it again.
With all the good things that Orlando Jai-Alai has done, and is
doing, this really disappoints me, both from a spectating standpoint
and from a wagering standpoint. You give me Foronda in the 1,
Egi in the 2, Pancho in the 7, you can expect me to keep my money
in my pocket. Next game, please.
