I couldn't agree with you more!
I know he was a big name in Jai-Alai, and I did like his George
Steinbrenner
approach to building a roster.
However like so many men in his position he really did not know
the game.
And also like so many American owners, he treated his Player Manager's
word as the
gospel - big mistake!
There were many great players that were Hartford wothy, that were
never asked to
play there. He wasn't keen on American Players either.
And as great as the roster was / which was considered the best
by many right up until the strike, there are those who can make
a strong argument, that without Joey who owned (Remen and Uriarte)
or (Boliver who also was better than both of them) how could it
really be the best, they had some players there that were way
past their prime, Ereno, Aramayo 1 , Del Rio , Uribar, Said ,
Orbea III,Urquidi, etc really at that point they were just names,
not the players they once were
