For Berenson's start at Hartford Jai-Alai, it was pretty much
'open' season. Players were on a year to year contract
status with WJA and Berenson simply was willing to pay them more
than what WJA was prepared to offer. Although money was a key
factor...it didn't hurt that the players were familiar with the
way Berenson ran his business. After all it was Buddy Berenson
that brought all of these players in when he owned Miami and Tampa.
I had an offer on the table to return to Hartford in 1984 but
due to all my family being in Florida, I chose not to do so. And
for the record...James was one of my favorite partners in Ft.
Pierce and Ocala. Thanks for your kind remarks CTguy.
