Why do retired Jai-Alai players seem to distance themselves from the sport?

I guess i'm just comparing this to other retired sport greats but it seems those that played Jai-Alai often forget about the sport and no longer support it. Of course it's not all players but overall i get this sense. You would think jai-alai being in it's most vulnerable state ever these greats would come out and find a way to help it. Joey where are you?
