i've been there probably more than anyone else, and i have to
say that the players always try really hard and it is always a
worthwhile visit. i know that pita cares very much and does what
he can to draw attention to the fronton. i have seen the hamilton
jai alai commercial four times more than i have ever seen the
ocala one. both players and management do what they can with the
resources available to them.
as far as lake city and valdosta not really being that far away,
that is true, but neither of those places really have people who
know/care about jai alai. so why would they drive 30ish minutes
to go to some random foreign sport? they themselves are middle
of nowhere 'cities'... not much to draw a fan base from.
ocala is nowhere near as isolated as hamilton, and it is close
enough to Gainesville (think 15 minutes) to draw crowds from the
University of Florida when the specials are right. it's not fair
to compare the two frontons. they aren't the same.
