My take....for parimutuels I agree....money I have won early in a performance doesn't change the amounts I bet later too much. Maybe if I was playing tri combos like 123/78/45 then I might add the 6 or 3 in show position if I was ahead....just to bump up the betting a little.

Poker is a TOTALLY different animal. If the pot is $100 and $80 is mine....well I win the pot unless somebody calls or raises. How much I bet and have in the pot absolutely will determine future action in that pot. Say somebody calls my big bet....maybe they have the goods and I am more cautious. Or maybe I was bluffing and got caught...do I try and bet more to buy my way out? Do I wave the white flag and not bet in future rounds? Also....am I betting first each round or not? How many players called my bet? Are they tight or loose generally? The list goes on because....in poker.....when you bet and how much you bet are critical parts of the strategy aspect of the game. I bet when I know I have the best hand and want at least a call...so how much do I bet? And I also bet when I feel like they will fold....so how much gets them to do that? Prior bets of mine have influence.....because I know it is a lot easier for my opponents to have called that $20 bet I made versus a $200 bet I made.
