Tommy is right. Bridgeport never should have closed. The key
is that Bridgeport was far enough from Sports Haven that it was
able to have simulcasting. Sports Haven kept Milford from getting
simulcasting, so Milford couldn't stay afloat. If Bridgeport hadn't
closed in 1995, I think it would have become a year-round fronton
by 1998 or so, with Milford closing.
(By the way, in terms of favorite frontons in the state it was
1. Bridgeport, 2. Hartford, 3. Milford).
If jai alai were to come back today, I think the best thing to
do would be to put it AT Sports Haven in New Haven. You'd have
jai alai and simulcasting in one building, and it would be a little
closer for people coming from points north.
I think it would draw better than Miami and Dania do, but sadly
I wouldn't expect big crowds.
