Wow, great question, Tiger. You would have thought at least
one of us would have realized that the exacta consolation actually
DOES NOT make sense to pay the ALL-x. Just like what you said
on trifecta consolations: you have to have the first and second
number, or the first number, even in you are boxing numbers and
pick two of the three numbers, you only get a winner if you have
the first two numbers, or at Ft. Pierce, where you often see 1-x-x
consolations on the matinees.
I remember many years ago, when the Quiniela Double was a very
popular wager, even at Orlando Jai Alai, and it was HUGE at Miami.
If you won the whole pool at Miami, you'd win over $1,000 on the
dollar. Anyway, the times they had a consolation, you had to have
the first half of the quiniela double, and they'd pay a consolation.
Let's say it was
3-4 with 7-8, and no one had the 7-8 on the 2nd half. The consolation
was 3-4 with 7-all and 3-4 with all-8, which made sense, since
the quiniela is no order bet. BUT, people complained to the state,
and the state changed the consolation rules to all a ridiculous
FOUR consolation quiniela as follows: all-4-7-8, 3-all-7-8, 3-4-7-all
and 3-4-all-8. So, I wonder if anyone complained about this if
the state would consider revamping the perfecta consolation where
you had to have the first number???
