I've seen pictures from Europe where some of the players have the cesta on their left hand.
Now, they are on open air courts (without sidewalls), so I suppose it shouldn't matter in that case.
In the 3-wall game, if the sidewall was on the right, would there be no right-handed players?
I get the feeling that tradition has trumped reality.
