Funny this topic should come up. This past weekend I went with
my friend to Shoreline Star - I don't live in CT anymore and I
had never been there before. We were talking about the old days
at Milford and Bridgeport Jai Alai and I told him, "You are
probably the only person I know who went to jai alai somewhat
frequently who might be ahead on the total of the money you bet
there."
Personally, I liked to bet the players based on how they were
playing, the post, and the other teams in the field. I won some
good money on exactas and trifectas over the years but I lost
a lot more. I think that if you go regularly, the key is to play
specific number combinations the entire night. Given that the
management scrapes the 18% or whatever the amount is off the top
of the pool, if you go a lot the realistic best you can to is
to break about even and have a good time. None of the regulars
that I remember seeing over the years ever impressed me as big
winners over the long haul.
