With the exception of a few special areas (like Pick-3), the only decent pools are Quiniela and Trifecta, and you're looking at a takeout of 25% or so. That's the hurdle you've got to get over to break even. So, no one can be a big winner over the long haul. Anyone who says he is, is lying.

But, I contend you can get a small edge if you're really good. You need top-notch player ratings and a total understanding of the probabilities brought about by the rotation. You must be prepared to make many straight bets per game - i.e., none of that "box the 3 best teams" crap, and be able to last out the dry spells. That, plus patience, discipline and good money management can create a 5+% long term return.
