Pipe dream? I don't think so. I believe that Texas Jai-Alai can
happen.
First we need some legislative action.....and we all know that
legislators are usually open to appropriate persuasion. I have
a feeling that Evan Coleman has done his homework, and that he
will succeed in getting the necessary legislation passed. I also
believe that Mr. Coleman will do whatever it takes to promote
the product and run a first class operation.
I agree with Daniel I, though, when it comes to putting quality
players on the court. Where are they gonna come from? Quality
play will be important, right from the start. Jai-alai will be
playing to a new audience, and you know what they say about first
impressions. Jai-alai is incredibly beautiful and exciting when
played well....but it can be brutal to watch when it consists
of short volleys ending with missed catches. If the folks in Texas
see quality play when they first attend, and therefore are entertained,
they'll be back. If they witness a drop-a-thon, or a lack of effort,
they probably won't be back.....save those who happen to win some
bucks.
Call me hopeful, and cautiously optimistic.
And Mr. Coleman.....if you're reading this.....one favor, please.....please
give us ample notice of your REAL opening date, so we can make
travel plans.
