Thanks for remembering George. He passed away January 2005 after
a one car accident on Bayshore Blvd. I went to his memorial service,
he had a full City of Tampa police honor guard.
If it wasn't for George & his ability to prop himself up in
the back corner to scrape off the side wall clinging serve by
the Mexican front court player, we never could have done what
we did. Piston even told us that he had never seen anybody in
all his experience, be able to serve from the inside & keep
it glued to side wall so perfect, pro or amateur. Alas, George's
knees were never the same after that, but he sacrificed his body
for our team USA.
Kudos to you Crab & the honors you achieved by representing
your country. I offered my help & support to Richard Troth,
director of the USA Amateur committee, about 8 months ago. He
welcomed my help in doing whatever could be done to resurrect
Team USA to participate in World events again. He wanted me to
attend an upcoming board meeting of world team representatives
in Brussels, Belgium but I haven't been contacted since. I would
love to offer any financial support or training if needed, such
as was offered to me at the time of the Amateur Championships
that I was fortunate enough to play in.
