On closing night of the 1990 season at Ocala Jai-alai my sister,
best friend and I each received a cesta from three Basque players
on the roster. I was the lucky recipient of a brand new cesta
from Javier Madarieta. I treasured it for many years and reasons
but mostly because he will always be my favorite player of all
time. Unfortunately, due to a house fire, I no longer have the
cesta or any other Ocala Jai-alai treasures and photos I collected
through the years.
I had the pleasure to get to know Javier while he was here for
those three short years. His kindness and generosity will never
be forgotten.
