I do not know how much power the union has....but I think that
speaks to my point. If the union has no power at all then they
should stop collecting dues. If they do have some power as the
representative of the players then use it to make sure the players
don't get a raw deal.
I should add that I do not think Dania is looking to screw the
players in this whole deal. But what happens when the slots start
raking in the cash and some big casino company makes an offer
to buy the fronton for 8 or 9 figures? With Dania being so close
to the airport and beaches it will be a very attractive property
for the casino companies who want to get a piece of the South
Florida action. And with Broward having the monopoly on slots
for now, and with the Seminole Hard Rock having TRIPLED even their
highest revenue projection for their first year of operation I
think a casino company buying out Dania is a very real and possibly
grim possibility for jai-alai fans....unless someone proposes
some rules that can ensure jai-alai's survival.
