Confused-us say: "Man who shake tree too much get hit in
head with coconut."
"What do you suppose the strategy would be?"
If I were a player, my strategy would be to get sick and scratch
before that game. Seriously, though, the usual receiver advantage
in doubles would be altered. The game play would be like singles,
maybe giving the serving team the edge, but the receiving team
could choose who would receive the serve, and thus set up the
rotation of who throws to whom for the entire point.
"Would it be more like singles?"
Sort of, except that you'd have a lot more time to get back into
position after making a shot....and you'd have to be very sharp
mentally to keep track of which of the other guys on the court
you're trying to beat.
"Would 2 singles players make the best team? 2 fronts? 2
backs?"
Probably two guys who are good singles players.
"Would the players react negatively to what I am assuming
would be an unnatural game flow?"
I think most would.
"Would it be too confusing/unsettling, for fans AND players,
to have one of these in the middle of a regular program?"
Not only for fans and players, but for the officials as well.
They'd have to keep track of who is supposed to play the next
shot.
"Mostly, would it be FUN?"
It would certainly be different, but different isn't always better.
You wouldn't get the long volleys that you get in the regular
doubles game, and I'd much rather see traditional doubles.
