This was my comment on the Milford Guest List on July 22, 2000.
A sad event at Newport yesterday...... Matinee Game 1 had a total REFUND in the Trifecta pool. I've never seen this in nearly 25 years of tracking jai-alai. I doubt that the handful of attendees even appreciated the significance........The more serious implication is that the powers-that-be will eventually agree that a jai-alai card need not be a prerequisite to having the facility open for slots and simulcasting. Sure, I know it's the law now, but the thread between the pari-mutuel license and the slots can be snipped any time they feel like it......... So, to you guys who want to extend the season, I wish us all luck, but have to ask - WHY? ...... Sad!
And this was the game:

There was no Exacta betting at Newport, or there would have been a bunch of those, too.
