Sure, your momentum can carry you if you are running when you make the catch, but I have a feeling that's not what happened in the instance the original comment was about. You're supposed to make the return throw as quickly as possible from where you caught the pelota. Taking unnecessary steps, in any direction, should result in a holding call. But, as we all know, it's widely accepted in today's game.
