One interesting thing i remember about early betting was if
a mutuel clerk punched a wrong ticket they could not cancel it
and they were stuck with the ticket unless they could sell it
to someone else.This created an auction clerks shouting out "got
a 3 to win".
Clerks would get mad. Of course if the ticket they were stuck
with came in they were very happy.
