Re(1): #494 - Early game runouts and the 'class sandwich'

Okay....I'll bite.

I have one view on this issue for singles and another for doubles.

In singles, I don't think it matters much whether it's early games or late, but when you have a player in the 7 or 8 hole who is by far the best singles player in the game, and much weaker players in posts 1, 2 and 3, that to me is a runout waiting to happen.

In doubles, if you have a dominant frontcourt player in the late games, like Goikoetxea at Miami or Erik at Dania, in the 7 or 8, and the lineup is such that he will face much weaker players for enough points to run out the game, that's a runout waiting to happen. In the early games, though, I'm never really confident of a runout waiting to happen, because even if you have one front who is head and shoulders above the rest, the early game backcourters aren't as solid as the late game backs. In the lates, you can usually count on the backs to make the plays and keep the points alive for the dominant front to eventually put away, but in the earlies, the backs will make more mistakes.
