I am not proficient enough in my tri-probabilities to feel confident in any tri patterns. However, I love the pick 3, and what I usually do is a 3 x 3 x 3 wager $27. I'll incorporate my top 2 picks, then throw in a 'wildcard' (usually, a team with some nice place/show numbers, at nice odds), then hope for something silly to happen. It's still the kinda bet where you can snag the whole pool. (You, not me !)
