I wish I had my old program that specifically stated the rules
regarding player movement in singles. I know this may sound surprising
to you, but I'm sure a current player (or former) and attest to
what I read in this article. It went something like this:
Some time ago, at Orlando Jai Alai, a certain player (I forget
who), was having huge success in continual ace serves, so much
so, that Said decided to stand at the overserve line one night
and take the serve on a bounce. I believe you can not cut the
serve in singles before one bounce anyway. (WE REALLY NEED FULL
RULES PRINTED IN PROGRAMS ON THIS STUFF, I'D SAY! Where the hell
is it? LOL). Anyway, Said caught the ball off the boune and scored
to win. Then the rules were changed to something like this: The
receiver can not move past the serving area line, UNTIL the pelota
is in the air...something like that. So, the receiver would have
to be moving lightning fast in order to catch a serve off the
bounce, and since players tend to serve faster these days, that
would be nearly impossible.
Also, a previous poster mentioned "that the outside serve
in singles angling toward the cage is highly discouraged and frowned
upon by player's manager" is absolutely correct. It is, and
this was in the article as well.
