it's all about the serve, as Chris A said

The caliber of players in game 12 singles at Miami is pretty amazing. But what is even more amazing is the 'scare' factor Goiko has when any player serves to him in singles. First off, ever notice when they DO NOT serve to Goiko, they all nail the serve right on the wall, forcing a left side catch, which is the best way to start off in singles, obviously. But as soon as Goiko comes on the court, miraculously, the serve is 10 feet off the wall or more, and Goiko gets the forehand, and gains immediate control. It's not that Goiko runs around the left side, it's that the serve is so far off the wall, the forehand is the natural choice! If the players can't keep the serve on the wall against Goiko, then the majority of the time, they will lose the point, and the serve was the problem, not the kill shot attempt or the rebote.
