Inclan and Zulaica overcame their natural left-handedness by learning to catch the serve and kill the point better than anyone I ever saw. Inclan was THE best at it. Zulaica wasnt quite as good at it, but often even if he didn't end the point immediately he would take control off the serve.
That's why, when he was still at Milford, why Zulaica gave Remen fits in the Hartford-Milford partidos, A winning partido team usually gets a run of at least a few points, but it was hard to get several in a row off Zulaica when you had to keep serving to him.
Of course, the big downside for lefties is singles. Inclan was never a great singles player, and Zuliaca never even cracked the feature singles field (and never even subbed in it) before the strike.
I'm guessing Zulaica and Inclan both learned to kill the serve very early. I think to do that, and to do something with your off hand, is best learned young, which is one of the reasons Tevin never became a great player.
