As soon as I saw this question the team of Beheretche and Cuvet popped into my head. They were always a favorite team of mine and I had to go back and look at the numbers to see just how good they were as a team. Unfortunately Dania's site does not show team figures for summer 1997 or earlier. But if you look at the 3 seasons where we do have figures it would be Winter 97-98, Summer 98, and Winter 98-99. The stats for Beheretche/Cuvet team show 223 games played and 40 wins for a .179 win clip.
As indiviuals they did not win at that rate but as a team they were deadly.
As to why, hard to say - maybe it's the French connection.
Or it could be that both caught very well (including the tough balls) and could bring the heat from both sides on their throws.
