The Citrus and World Cup will go down as the best thing in a decade
to hit Orlando. We needed that type of format, BADLY...the games
played to 7 straight points gave us a chance to see some REAL
jai alai, where cuttin the serve and going for broke was not the
norm for once. A total successful weekend, and I hear next year
will be just as good...maybe even better!
If you ask me, Orlando made a huge error in selecting to open
and close on Sunday matinees. Night jai alai is where it's at,
and they should learn to just wait and open on the first Friday
night (or Saturday night), and close on a Saturday night. Last
year, it just worked out it was like that, and that crowd on closing
night stayed for the whole thing...and it was a huge crowd! I
think Sunday's closer will be a disappointment. Opening day really
wasn't all that, either.
I don't have a problem with the staff at all. The lady who works
the concession stand on the 2nd floor is a total joy...very nice,
very efficient, and always prepares great food. The staff in the
Terrace restaurant, are all very, very nice. Mr. Echaniz is always
nice and fun to talk to, and his organization of the Citrus and
World Cup was outstanding. He told me, originally, some of the
promoters did not want the mixed games, but Santi told them they
needed them...that it would be better overall jai alai for the
fans, and did he nail it on the head or what? Some of the mixed
games were out and out thrillers! To see the same teams for the
whole thing would have meant the main star teams...you know who
they were...would have crushed everything, just like they basically
did in the World Cup games.
As far as the program goes, I think the twin tri and tri-super
are dead. Why oh why do they keep it. They lose money on it, overall,
I'd say, because people avoid tri wagering on those 2 games. Regular
tris would more than make up the difference. I also asked Santi
why not end the night with a super doubles game, instead of back
to back singles, and he said he'd like to, but it would mean keeping
twice as many players later in the night for that. I do wish they
would just have one game with the featured players in doubles
to 9 points though...maybe game 12, since it is featured doubles,
anyway.
