I used to love the single point games when they had them at Bridgeport.
In fact, the first trifecta I ever hit was in a single point game
there. Castro I and Esteben won six straight points in the second
round to bring in a 173 tri. (Of course, if that game had been
spectacular 7, my tri would have come in three points earlier!)
To me, what makes the single point games better is that even if
a team gets a couple of gift points, they pretty much still have
to earn their spot on the board. How many times have you seen
a team win in spectacular 7 while hardly having to make a shot?
That's much less likely to happen with single points.
Single points would never make it as the "norm", but
I'd like to see it come back as the last game of the performance.
