a bad assumption, examined

This assumes that your betting 6-5-8 wouldn't have significantly reduced the payout (a bad assumption.)

Here are some of the 658 prices during that period:

If we generously assume a pre-takeout tri-pool of about $10,000, then we can make some kind of approximation of the impact of an incremental $1 or $2 wager. If the best case scenario is $10,000 pool / $1 bet, I see a reduction of net return by about one third.

OTOH, if we go with $5000 / $2, it is more like a 60% decrease.
