At first I was thinking "yes" on the shorter seasons,
but I think the negatives outweigh the positives. One issue is
that you may lose players. If they are only employed 6 months
in the U.S. then most will return to Spain/France and may find
other opportunities and not return. Back in the days of many frontons
they would simply go play at another fronton in the U.S. but I
don't see that happening now. If Dania/Miami went to 5-6 month
seasons there are not too many players who I think would go to
the Fort or Ocala/Orlando/Hamilton. Now if Miami and Dania could
partner up and run opposite dates with a shared roster that could
work. Then the best players would be at those 2 frontons and the
rest at the others.
The other downside is no poker, and that means a lot of unemployed
dealers, etc. But with the state hassling the frontons and shutting
down the tournaments the poker may be viewed as expendable and
much less important now that business is down.
