In the declining days of Milford, I used to love to watch Alfonso serve. They were using brand new balls that were extremely lively. Alfonso, no singles magician, if he got to serve, had perfected a serve where he would serve the ball almost like a lob, it would hit high on the frontis and bounce just inside the 7 line. The ball would bounce extremely high, tantalizing the receiving player, only for the ball to hit the rear wall and fall for a perfect serve. Players at times resorted to trying to return the ball off the rear wall as a rebote, but rarely succeeded. I won many a game betting on Alfonso to finish first or second in the exotics.
