First, and obviously, the serve advantage.
Second, the skill variance, since in singles, you can't weigh
down the stars with neutral or dud partners.
Because of these two factors, Spec 7 singles games tend to have
fewer total points than Spec 7 doubles games.
So maybe we would want to extend the singles game by going to
9.
But... with a 9-pt singles game, the dominant player has an even
better chance to win. Do we want more mis-matched games?
