As far as subs in a game goes, to me, it's just a given how it
seems to unfold.
Let's take Miami, for example, where in game 9 singles, someone
is scratched, and in comes a game 12 player to sub for him, such
as Benny or Areitio. It seems so often in that situation, the
sub is in the money or wins the game, creating a low payoff.
Then we have the late games, where Arriaga is scratched (what
else is new), and in comes Aitor or Jon to sub, and so often,
those subs look timid in that situation, and play that way. Not
to mention, they've probably sat idle for about an hour or so.
They know in their minds they don't really belong in this game,
not that they are good, just they are not feature players, and
they just don't live up to anything significant.
HOWEVER, at Miami, I will say when Dezec subs in late games, he
actually does pretty well. He's one of the few who seems to LIKE
the challenge and WANT it. I'd say Osa is the same way, and he
deserves late games.
