A really key factor is whether #8 actually gets that first round
point.
That gets them to the odd number of points they need to get to
7 most efficiently, and then they're only 3 points away.
If they don't get that first round point, as you say, it
can make for a long game (for the bettor).
So, do we really focus hard on handicapping the expected
point of #8 vs. #7 (or #6) and vs. #1 (or #2)? Or, maybe, look
for spots where you like #8 and they have a clear edge on #7.
