That is a very interesting question! I would imagine that doubles
teams would always elect to receive, and in singles the player
with the choice would NEARLY always elect to serve. The exception
in singles might be a player with a lot of power and a not so
accurate serve. Such a player might want to receive, especially
if he's playing against an opponent who doesn't cover the court
too well. I don't think the flow of the game would be affected
much.
As for whether I'd like to see it tried.....yeah.....I would.....maybe
as an experiment one game a night to see how it goes. And I'd
rather see the incoming team have the choice, as opposed to the
team that won the previous point. That way no team would control
the decision for two (or more) consecutive points.
