I always found in singles that when I happened to be in post 1, I had an advantage. It was no problem placing the ball somewhere near the wall on the serve. This would force him to take a backhand, providing little ability to kill...often setting me up to control. (I hated receiving deep on my backhand in singles though.) On the other hand, I found it better to receive in doubles... Bad serve, frontcourter catches it... Comes to me, I'd usually catch it right side and have a chance to cause trouble.
