One thing I know for sure about Miguel is that he was always better
as a singles player because he does the basic things right: hit
the chula, wear the otehr guy out, and either let him beat himself
or throw the dejada after the 4th-5th volley. He is a pest. Doubles
might be harder for him in Dania because he lacks offense. He
can catch very well but he seems to always look for the flashy
play or climb of the way and that might explain the easy play
errors.
In a seperate issue, One other pattern that I do notice with new
players from Spain/France is that because they are so accostumed
to playing partido doubles, they have a hard time adjusting to
the quiniela style of play and to the singles game. Playing Qs
as opposed to partidos is a different world and singles is a much
different strategy than doubles. Singles seems to benefit fast
defensive player because the best offensive shot in singles is
the chula and in doubles, the pace is faster and communication
with your partner is very important.
