Actually Milfordfan, the bathrooms are the ONLY thing I don't
love about jai-alai but here are a few of the things I DO love:
1. I love the speed, agility, strength, and intelligence of the
players that compete in jai-alai. I know this is four separate
things but I think when all of these traits are found in one man,
what you get is one hell of an amazing athlete participating in
a very interesting and exciting sport.
2. I love all the memories I have gathered through the years of
going to jai-alai frontons and meeting people there. I keep many
of those memories in my jai-alai box and others are in my head
or heart. I consider myself lucky to have seen the sport in its
glory and for witnessing so many amazing players compete. I have
also enjoyed watching new generations of players come into professional
play by first having to adapt to the speed, then improve and eventually
thrive in the sport. I have met many players, fronton staff, and
fans who I consider as friends and always will. Again, I know
this is more than one thing but as a whole, jai-alai has been
a big part of my life and I have enjoyed every minute of it. In
a way, the jai-alai community is like one big family and I am
thankful to be a part of it, even in a minute way.
3. I love that jai-alai introduced me to the Basque culture. I
have met many Basque players and their families and feel so blessed
to have been exposed to their unique and strong culture. I hope
to visit the Basque Country someday so I can see firsthand many
of the places and things I have heard so much about but most importantly,
so I can see some of my friends again.
