Some good points Craig, but in over a decade of playing pro mostly in the early games I can tell you that the server in singles has the advantage a very large percentage of the time. Most players back or front can and do develop a good enough server to have the advantage over the receiver. If you put the serve on or close to the wall in the early games the receiver will usually give you the ball mid court, give you a rebote mid court and very rarely hit the chula or the perfect lol placement shank shot. just my 2 cents
