Players manager Arregui always said that if something was to happen
enroute to the fronton then we had to call in at least 30 minutes
before our scheduled check in time. One day my car broke down...I
called Arregui 45 minutes before I was supposed to be there and
explained that I had a tow truck on the way but I didn't know
how I was going to get to Jai Aalai. He said call and keep him
updated. I called again right at the time I was supposed to be
in the back door...told him the wrecker had just picked me up
but I still had no way to get there. I asked him if he had anybody
to send and I probably could make it by my 2nd game. He just kind
of disgustedly said no...he would scratch me for the night. So
I went home.
The next night when I arrived I had a fine on the bulletin board
for not showing up. $100!! I went into his office and asked why...I
said I had followed all the rules and done everything I could
do...He just looked at me and asked why I hadn't shown up to the
fronton. I answered you scratched me for the night...so I figured
I was just supposed to go home and if I was broken down...how
was I supposed to get there anyway?
He just smiled at me and said...Next time leave earlier from home.
I paid the fine.
