Part of the gaming regulations require that all players in a particular game throw at least one practice ball for the wagering public to have a chance to view. So players are required to be in the players cage no later than a time set by management. If a player is late, they are automatically scratched since the players manager must notify the state official's booth and provide the substitute for the game. I was once less than 30 seconds late at Dania and was scratched for the night. I also was fined $75 for this (yup, $2.70 for each second late).
