Bennett, that's exactly why the verbiage in this flyer did nothing
to advance the player's cause. They didn't mention any specific
examples of how they were being treated unfairly. The one example
they point out is only getting 30 days notice that their contracts
would not be renewed. Perhaps a longer notice period could have
been negotiated in collective bargaining, but this is hardly an
unfair labor practice.
As I recall, one of the player's chief gripes was that if they
got injured playing jai-alai, they had no protection beyond the
length of their current contract. I also remember hearing that
they wanted better health care benefits for their families. Strangely
enough, I don't remember pay being one of the issues they were
complaining about.
